Civics is the study of the rights and obligations in society.
When immigrants want to become legal citizens of the United States, they must take a citizenship test.
USCIS welcomed 967,500 new citizens in 2022. This was a 20% increase from the previous year.
Section 312 of the INA requires that naturalization applicants demonstrate an ability to read, write, and speak words in ordinary usage in the English language and have a knowledge and understanding of U.S. history and government (civics).
